Living and Working in the Alamo Area

The 12-county Alamo Area is home to more than 1.9 million people and includes San Antonio, the seventh-largest city in the United States. Major military installations including Fort Sam Houston, where a multibillion dollar expansion is under way, buttress growing manufacturing, biotechnology, distribution, renewable energy and technology sectors. Toyota opened a $1.3 billion complex to build trucks in the region in 2003. The region is equidistant from the East and West coasts of the United States and along the NAFTA Corridor between Mexico and Canada, and Port San Antonio. The Alamo Area can lay claim to an diverse historic and cultural mix and array of natural assets, including hills, waterways and forests, that provide abundant outdoor recreation opportunities. In addition to the fabled Alamo historic attraction, San Antonio is also home to the River Walk, which winds through downtown and includes dozens of shops, restaurants and attractions.
